| Hemlock Ridge Charters would like to offer you our professional Charter Fishing Services. We can provide you with a custom charter to suit your personal needs. From 1 client to groups of up to 24 clients. Our Captains are all owner operators and they are all USCG Licensed and Insured. They all have a minimum of 5 years fishing experience on the waters out of Whittier. Best of all they are all proven fish catchers.
Whittier is the gateway to Prince William Sound. The Sound is protected by numerous Islands. The water is more like a large lake than the ocean. We don't receive the large ocean swells that tend to make people sea sick. In fact it is very rare that our clients get sea sick. The water abounds with sea life. We often see Whales, Sea Otters, Puffins, Sea Lions, Black Bears, Eagles and a variety of other interesting wild life.
Halibut and Salmon catches are as good or better than some of the better known ports around South Central Alaska. The Halibut fishing is very good, with many fish over 100 pounds caught every year. The average fish caught is in the 30 pound class. Salmon fishing is very good for Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Chum, and Pink Salmon. Salmon are available from mid May through September. (ask us for the run timing) We troll for Salmon using down riggers and we are very sucessful.
Rock Fish fishing is outstanding. World record class Yelloweye are caught on a regular basis. There are many species of rock fish available and they are wonderful eating. Ling Cod is available after July 1. The fishing is very good to outstanding, with many fish in the 50 pound class.
We also offer SALMON SHARK FISHING. These trips are productive and very exciting. "Big Game Fishing at it's best." We encourage catch and release of all but 1 shark. These charters are limited to private charter groups of 4 fishermen or less.
Whittier is a short drive from Anchorage, Alaska. About 1-1/4 hours. The drive from Anchorage is very easy and very scenic. Watch for Eagles and Dall Sheep along the way. There is no need to drive all day and spend the night, like when you fish at Homer or Ninilchik. Whittier is 2 1/2 to 3 hours less driving than going to Seward and the fishing is just as good. Maybe better?
The town of Whittier is growing and has several very good restaurants. There is very good Lodging available should you wish to stay in Whittier. There is a very good fish processing facility available to vacuum pack your catch and ship it home for you if that is your desire. Please join us in 2008 or future years.
